Today there are almost infinite ways to get information. Our fast and constant feed of information has grown as different social media platforms have appeared. Although they serve the same purpose, they all have specific niche ways they provide information. Different factors such as audiences, types of posts, and abilities, range from site to site.
Facebook is one of the largest platforms with 2.8 billion monthly users around the world (Moshin). Facebook provides a space from personal profile to business profiles. Like most social media, this space is where people share their lives and opinions on the world happening around them. Businesses have now trickled into this group and have thrived from personally connecting to their audiences daily. The platforms allows post to exponentially gain attention because one person may repost a message from a brand and then that same message it personally introduced to that persons inter circle, or the people that are friends with them. This gives more trust and personability to the initial message using someone else to freely promote it.
Twitter is almost entirely different in the way people transfer information back and forth. It is very text focused. If there is a picture involved its adding context to the message versus it being the main focus. This makes the platform very good for spreading quickly spreading small amount of information, particularly because of the 280 word limit for posts.
Instagram is also a drastic display of how to rely messages. Unlike twitter, it is very media focused. People have to draw in attention through the picture or videos they post for their audience to take the time to read any caption they might have below it. This is very good for showing off pictures, ideas and themes, in a visual way, which also tends to reside in an individual’s mind longer if they can put an image with a message.
The last social media platform that is heavily used for branding and getting curated information to the public is Pinterest. It, like Instagram, is very media focused. People will pin ideas to different boards. These boards are generally categorized and gives people a way to organize information they’re looking for or come across and want to return to it another time. This platform is very popular amongst bloggers due to the ability to link a post from their site to a singular picture that others can share. Pinterest encourages exploring of ideas, advice or information from others.
Using each of these sites to serve different purposes of information spreading helps to increase one’s reach to the public and become memorable.
